Pakistan’s Danish Kaneria claimed seven wickets against Middlesex in the County Championship Second Division match at Lord’s but his Essex team lost by an innings.
Middlesex won by an innings and 38 runs after they bowled local rivals Essex out for just 161 before racking up 583 themselves courtesy of 144 from Owais Shah and 96 by Eoin Morgan.
Leg-spinner Kaneria had to rely on all his variations on a pitch that was not offering much assistance to the spinners as he claimed 7-157 from 43.5 overs. It was Kaneria’s 44th five-wicket haul in first-class cricket, making the most of the arena before three weeks of Twenty20 cricket.
Essex were bowled out for 384 second time round, which still was not enough to put Middlesex back into bat. At least for Kaneria, his 15 runs took him past 1,000 runs in first-class cricket.
